    o The World Ocean Observatory has just launched a new bi-annual e-zine on ocean culture and solutions to today's ocean issues. It's called the World Ocean Journal and the first issue can be viewed here.

    o Royal order of Denmark award for ICMM's immediate past president

    Morten Hahn-Pedersen, immediate past president of ICMM, has been appointed a Knight of the Order of Dannenbrog, by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. This follows on the celebration in February 2013 of Morten's 25 years as director of the Fisheries and Maritime Museum of Esbjerg, Denmark.

    o Mary-Louise Williams receives Australian Honour

    Former Director of the Australian National Maritime Museum and long-standing ICMM member Mary-Louise Williams has been honoured in the 2013 Australia Day Honours List. Details here.

    o Tips for recruiting young volunteers

    Having friends that volunteer regularly is the primary factor influencing the volunteering habits of young people. Over 70 percent of young people with friends who regularly volunteer, also volunteer. These are two results from a US study ‘Young people and volunteering’. Read more.

    o Peking's situation desperate

    Peking, a steel-hulled four-masted barque built in 1911, which has been a largely neglected fixture at New York’s South Street Seaport for almost the last 40 years, is now in desperate need of a new home.

    The South Street Seaport Museum thought that they had an agreement with the city of Hamburg to take the grand old ship. That deal apparently fell through and the future of the old ship is again in doubt. Click here for more of the story.
