The City Museum is dedicated to local history, fine and decorative
art and 'The Story of Portsmouth' with displays of room settings
showing life in Portsmouth from the 17th century to the 1950's using
traditional and modern techniques in the way it is presented.
Exhibits & Programs:
Experience the different life-styles of the Victorian working poor
in a typical home, affluent Victorians in their 'parlour', a 1930's
kitchen, a dining room in the 'Art Deco' style. Finally enjoy a
1950's living room complete with flying ducks on the wall and an
example of an early television showing children's programmes of
the day.
You can also try out our 'What the Butler Saw' machines on the
pier in our 'Portsmouth at Play' exhibition.
The museum has a fine and decorative art gallery and a temporary
exhibition gallery with an exciting programme of exhibitions. Click
