The mission of the Old Dartmouth Historical Society-New Bedford
Whaling Museum is to educate and interest all the public in:
The historic interaction of humans with whales worldwide; in the
history of Old Dartmouth and adjacent communities; and in regional
maritime activities.

To accomplish this mission, the Society shall:
Collect, preserve, and interpret the artifacts and documentary evidence
of these endeavors;
Maintain a whaling, maritime, and local history museum;
Maintain a research library;
Promote and disseminate historical research; and
Accept and hold historic sites, where appropriate.

"The Chronicle of the Blue Whale"
"The Story of the Factory Ship Ulysses and the Controversy
of 20th-Century Whaling"
In Concert: Dremmwel (Friday - Nov. 6 - 8 p.m)
"Panorama of a Whaling Voyage 'Round the World,"
Painting, artifacts from the Pacific Islands and Alaska that were
brought to New Bedford by returning whalemen, the reconstructed
offices of Jonathan Bourne, and displays of early whale oil lighting
and whale crafts.
Hours of Operation:
Daily: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m; until 9 p.m. the second Thursday of each
month.
Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
