A new website for the Museu Marítim de Barcelona
The Museu Marítim de Barcelona put into action couple of years ago a long-term project centred on a need to adapt to rising technologies and new communication platforms offered by the market. The Museum decided to work on a new website, given that the existing one did not comply with the needs or prospects of the Museum.
The new technological platforms allow the website to be not only a showroom of the information generated by the Museum but also an instrument of institutional management.
Internet is a tool that facilitates a two-direction communication, that is, an interaction between the Museum and the user. Following this premise, the new website was envisaged with a criterion of improvement of its use. The Museum information may be addressed to different user groups and be in turn based on different objectives: effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction.
The structure was conceived in such a way that the final user, be it a child, a researcher, or a journalist would be able to access the information requested right from the portal page. The information was organised with an easy search of its content. Texts and their lengths were simplified and priority was given presenting a modern image along the line of the corporate image of the institution.
The website offers the possibility of establishing a relation and an interaction between user and the Museum by means of application forms, online activity booking, rental of singular rooms of the Museum, and consultation of the collection catalogues, among other options.
One of the main special features of the website is the access of information for handicapped people with the aim of assuring access to content to as many people as possible. The Museu Marítim de Barcelona became one of the first museums of Spain to comply with these requirements.
The new website includes new sections such as: institutional news, a press section addressed mainly to journalists, an up-to-date activity agenda, virtual visits to different halls and areas of the Royal Shipyards, among other. A section addressed to children and a shop will be soon on the website.
The Museu Marítim de Barcelona wishes to keep on consolidating its policy of bringing citizens closer, opening the institution doors and facilitating access to information, consultation, demands, and making it accessible to everybody. Check the website: www.museumaritimbarcelona.org
